Project summary
ShareRES is an innovative project that empowers citizens to actively participate in clean energy transitions through energy communities. Currently, energy community projects in Europe face challenges like legal restrictions, administrative burdens, and punitive tariffs. However, ShareRES's main objective is to improve the policies that enable active citizen participation in the energy market.
By fostering the generation, consumption, sharing, and sale of electricity, and providing grid flexibility through demand-response and storage, ShareRES envisions a democratic, sustainable, and inclusive energy system driven by energy communities.
The project will analyze policies and provide valuable insights to policy-makers in six EU regions:
- Riga Region (Latvia) in the North.
- Donegal County (Ireland) in the West.
- Gorenjska (Slovenia) and Alba Iulia (Romania) in the East.
- Nicosia (Cyprus) and Extremadura (Spain) in the South of Europe.
Together, we can pave the way for a brighter, greener future led by the active engagement of citizens in clean energy initiatives.

What will this project change
This groundbreaking project will bring about significant transformations. The citizens will become more aware of renewable energy projects and private investment will increase, resulting in the emergence of citizen-driven initiatives. As a result, the regions will experience numerous benefits and territorial impacts, including heightened energy efficiency, reduced energy costs, and, most notably, the creation of local jobs.
